Star Chef Michael Meredith supports food in schools
Internationally acclaimed chef and restaurant owner Michael Meredith is supporting the call for a national conversation around finding solutions to get hungry kids fed at school.
Michael urges, “Let hunger not be the reason that stops a child from reaching his or her full potential at school.”
My Kitchen Rules stars want kids fed at school
Aaron and Heather Freeman, Grand Finalists of My Kitchen Rules 2014, spoke to the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly about getting hungry kids fed at school.
“There’s no excuse in a country like New Zealand for kids to go hungry,” said Aaron.
Aaron and Heather recently joined Green co-leader Metiria Tūrei at Awapuni School to make lunch for almost 70 children.

Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei joined Aaron and Heather from My Kitchen Rules NZ to help make lunch for kids at Awapuni School in Palmerston North.
On the menu was homemade muesli bars, chicken, chickpea and mango chutney meatballs and Aaron's salt reduced chop suey.
Aaron and Heather said, "Our food philosophy is that every one deserves to eat and to eat well, especially our tamariki. They are our future and we are their teachers."
Feed the Kids Bill a "good initiative" - Jamie Oliver Food Foundation
Jamie Oliver’s Food Foundation thinks the Feed the Kids Bill is “a good initiative” and recently gave Greens co-leader Metiria Turei a guest blog spot on their website to talk about the Bill.

The Green Party has written to Prime Minister John Key urging him to vote for the Feed the Kids Bill if it comes before Parliament tomorrow, to allow MPs to debate how best to feed hungry children at school.
Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei adopted the Education (Breakfast and Lunch Programmes in Schools) Amendment Bill from Mana’s Hone Harawira and it may come before the House in a members’ day tomorrow. The Bill is close to the end of its first reading and MPs may get the opportunity to vote whether to send it to a select committee if it comes up.

Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei is urging all political parties to support the Feed the Kids Bill which she inherited today from Mana leader Hone Harawira.
Mrs Turei, who leads the Green Party's work on child poverty, will pick up Mr Harawira's Bill to provide government-funded breakfast and lunch in all decile 1 and 2 schools. The Bill is part way through its first reading.
"I urge parties to put politics aside, to ensure hungry kids are fed and able to learn in school, and vote for the Education (Breakfast and Lunch Programmes in Schools) Amendment Bill." Mrs Turei said.
