Kids will stay hungry at school under National government

That’s right; a group of politicians, who eat lunch every day, would not extend that basic right to our most needy kids.

For a fraction of the price of the bridges the Government is building in Northland, we could have fed hungry kids across the country. It just shows you where National’s priorities lie.

While I’m gutted about this, you need to know that I am optimistic that this setback is just a hurdle we will overcome on our path to building a fairer New Zealand where every hungry kid is fed.

I actually think a school lunch programme is inevitable. And because Kiwis like you care this issue isn’t going away. But the decision by National to vote against feeding hungry kids means we can’t rely on them to fix this problem.

Ending inequality in New Zealand is one of two key priorities for the Greens this year and we’ll be keeping you up to date with what we’re doing and ways you can get involved.

I personally want to thank everyone who’s taken action to support my Bill.

Working together I know we can build a better New Zealand where all our kids have good opportunities because they are well fed and ready to learn.”
